Zipper Repair & Replacement in San Juan Capistrano
A stuck or split zipper rarely means the garment is finished. Sometimes only the slider needs replacing; sometimes the whole zipper does. Sami looks at it at the counter and tells you which.

What's broken
Slider, teeth or tape
Where the zipper fails decides the repair, so bring the garment in rather than buying a part first.
The slider
A zipper that closes but splits open behind the pull usually has a worn slider. A new slider on the existing teeth can be enough.
Missing or bent teeth
Once teeth are missing or bent out of line, a new slider won't hold. The usual answer is a new zipper.
Torn tape
The fabric strip the teeth are fixed to can tear away from the garment. Depending on the damage, the tape is restitched or the zipper is replaced.
A broken stop
On a jacket, the box and pin at the bottom let the two sides separate. If that part breaks, the zipper usually has to be replaced.
Choosing the replacement
Matched to the garment
A replacement should match the original in length, weight and type: metal teeth on jeans and work jackets, a coil zipper on most trousers and skirts, an invisible zipper on many dresses, and a separating zipper on a jacket that opens all the way.
Color matters most where the zipper shows, such as an exposed metal zipper on a jacket. On a dress with an invisible zipper, the fit of the seam matters more than an exact shade.
How it works
From drop-off to pickup
- 01
Walk in with the garment
No appointment needed. If the pull or slider came off, bring it too.
- 02
See what's wrong
Sami checks the slider, teeth and tape and explains whether a repair or a new zipper makes sense.
- 03
Know the price first
You get the price at the counter before any work begins.
- 04
Pick it up
Ask about timing when you drop it off, or call ahead if you need it back by a certain day.
Worth knowing
When a zipper job is bigger than it looks
Long zippers, zippers in lined coats and zippers sewn under trim take longer, because the lining or trim has to come off and go back on. A zipper in leather is a separate case: see hemming and repairs and ask first.
If the garment also needs other work, such as a new lining or a hem, mention it at the same visit so everything is planned together.

Zipper Repair questions
Something else? Call (949) 493-0505 and Sami will help.
Can you fix a zipper that keeps coming apart?
Often, yes. If the teeth are fine, a worn slider is the usual cause and a new slider can be enough. If teeth are missing, the zipper needs replacing.
Can you replace the zipper on a jacket?
Yes. A jacket that opens all the way needs a separating zipper of the right length and weight, and the facing or lining around it is opened and closed again.
Do I need to buy the zipper myself?
No. Bring the garment in and Sami will tell you what it needs. If you have the original pull or slider, bring it along.
How much does zipper replacement cost?
It depends on the garment, the length and type of zipper, and whether a lining or trim has to come off. You get the price at the counter before any work begins.
Do I need an appointment?
No. Walk in Monday to Friday 10 to 5 or Saturday 10 to 3. Call (949) 493-0505 if you need the garment back by a certain day.
